Tickets Available for Waller TEDx Event

Student ideas and solutions will take the center stage this month – locally and online – as Waller Middle School hosts its second TEDx event.

The program, slated for November 19, will feature student and adult speakers, as well as student performers and official TED videos. The event then will be broadcast on Waller’s YouTube page and uploaded to Tedx.com.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas and sharing powerful talks on topics ranging from technology, science, business, entertainment and more. Last year, Waller was the first known organization in Oklahoma to host a TEDx Youth event.

This year’s theme is #what now. Students, who try out for the opportunity to represent their school, are expected to address relevant topics that impact the global community. Most presentations are between four- and 10-minutes long. Dancers, vocalists and instrumentalist also are expected to perform.

“Being able to host a TED conference at Waller has been a great experience for our students,” Principal Adam Beauchamp said. “It has allowed them a worldwide stage to showcase how they are producers and not just consumers of their education. Hosting a TED conference has been about more than just our speakers though; several staff members and students take part in a variety of ways. It really has been a school-wide event that we can all be proud of.”

The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $10, and seating is limited. To RSVP, please contact kpcarmack@enidk12.org or call 580-366-7900.

Waller’s presentation is an independently organized TED event, coordinated by Beauchamp and library media specialist Cristin Ashcraft.
