Coolidge School is located at 15th and East Chestnut. It was started in September, 1950, with three grades and a total of sixty-eight pupils. There were three teachers. Miss Ethel Mae Goddard was the first principal, she also taught third grade. Mr. Dow Gummerson was architect for the Coolidge School. Superintendent of Schools at the time of Coolidge's construction was Mr. DeWitt Waller. School board members were Dave Bucher, President; Mike Webber, Cleo Fisher, Mrs. Edith Mayberry, Mrs. Edith Pinkreton, Frank Marquis, and Forrest Warren.

Coolidge students were housed in the Wilson School the first semester. The new building was ready for occupancy January 29, 1951. Two new classrooms and an office were added by November, 1952. The three upper grades were then added. Enrollment reached 156 during the 1951-52 term. At the beginning of the 1952-53 year it was again necessary to make additions. Sixth grade pupils were assigned to Adams school to make room for another first grade. The enrollment reached 177.

In 1953-54, J.J. Reardon, contractor, completed another addition of two more classrooms, a music room, and an office. This addition made it possible for the sixth grade to return to the building. In 1954-55, another second grade was added with enrollment reaching 255.

A four-room addition was built in 1956-57 by Perry Davis, contractor. It was located north of the original site and joined to the first building by a diagonal hallway. This brought the total to nine classrooms, a film room, and a music room. In 1956-57, it was necessary to use eleven classrooms, the enrollment having reached 327. Miss Goddard was relieved of classroom duties to give full time to the principalship. Two more additions to the building were made. Four room to the east of the 1956 addition with two more rooms added later, making a total of six additional classrooms.

Mr. Fred Groves replaced Miss Goddard upon her retirement in 1969. He transferred from Jackson School in Enid. At this time Coolidge was the largest elementary school in Enid having an enrollment over 450. Four portable classrooms were added to house the large enrollment while a new addition was being built.

The fifth and sixth grades moved into the new building in September of 1971. It was operated as an open classroom. Six teachers taught in the new building, including a full time librarian. Teaching methods changed and the building had walls built to make individual classrooms and a library media center. A counselor's office was also added.

Mr. Groves continued as principal until October 1975. He retired because of ill health. Mr. Robert Woodson, Director Volunteer Service, served as interim principal until Mrs. Margie Pyle was appointed in January 1976. She transferred from Wilson School.

The multipurpose room/gym was built in 1979 and was first used in the spring of 1980.

In 1981 Mrs. Pyle was transferred to Glenwood School and was replaced by Mrs. Mary Beach. She came from Wilson School. In 1984, Coolidge made an outdoor classroom in the area between the eastern part of the main building and the northeast addition. Asphalt was removed, grass, flowers, and trees planted, the area fenced, and a watering system installed. Parents, students, and teachers contributed to the project.

In 1990 three more classrooms, a music room, a lunchroom, and a library were built.

Mrs. Mary Beach continued as principal until retirement in 1997. Mr. Clark Koepping came to Coolidge as principal from Lincoln School.
