Emerson students may join pep club at the beginning of the school year. Pep Club students sit together at games and show support for Emerson's teams.

Cheerleader and Pep Club Sponsor is Mrs. Shirley Gulick.

Emerson cheerleaders are 12 girls chosen by a panel of three judges and teachers evaluations. All the girls attend a summer camp together. The cheerleaders from Emerson get together before school starts with the junior high cheerleaders from Longfellow and Waller to learn cheers for the football games. All three squads cheer together at all home football games and usually a few out of town games. During basketball season the Emerson cheerleaders cheer for all the home basketball games.

During football and basketball, the cheerleaders have two pep assemblies and have several spirit days. Being a cheerleader at Emerson requires a lot of dedication and energy. The cheerleaders practice all summer and at least once a week during the school year.

If you are interested in becoming a cheerleader, you must have good grades, excellent attendance, great recommendations from all your teachers, and be a pep club member the previous year.
