Student
Referral Process
~Alternative
School is a voluntary program and all students must want to attend.~
Reasons for Referral:
Referral
is given for an At Risk Students whose present status indicates that they
might fail to successfully complete their secondary education and acquire
basic life skills necessary for higher education and/or employment.
Identification
characteristics may include:
- Student may be a member
of a household where income is at the poverty level.
- Student has not made
progress in mastering basic life skills for students of their age.
- Student has grades
that indicate major underachievement.
- Student has been retained
for one or more years.
- Student has excessive
absences during a school year or have been a school dropout.
- Student has been determined
at risk based on assessment by school staff familiar with the students success
in school. Evidence may include signs of abuse, alcohol or drug use, pregnancy,
and attempted suicide.
Intake and Screening:
Referrals can be made
by school principals, community agencies, parents, students and teachers.
- Referrals must first
be made to the students home school principal.
- Referrals will
then be sent to Lincoln Academy.
- All referrals will
be reviewed by the referral committee. This committee consists of the Alternative
School Principal, Alternative School Coordinator, Alternative School Counselor,
and and Alternative School Teacher.
- Parents and students
will be interviewed to help in the selection process.
- The parent, student,
and the home school will be notified if the student is selected for placement.
- A placement meeting
at Lincoln will be scheduled. Those attending this meeting must include
the Home School Principal and/or Counselor, Parent/Student, Alternative
School Coordinator, and the Alternative School Counselor.
- A final decision
will be made if the student will start attending Lincoln Academy at
the placement meeting.

Counseling
Services
- Lincoln offers students
a safe, nonjudgmental counseling environment to relieve stress and work
on personal issues.
- One of our counseling
goals is to communicate and maintain a working relationship with parents
and students.
- Individual, group,
family, drug, alcohol, anger management, teen moms, parenting classes, and
college placement are all a vital part of our program.

Vocational
Training
This program
is designed to assist our students in maintaining successful employment in
the community, suggest vocational training options, and provide them with
information about career options and the necessary skills needed to succeed
in the work place.

Extra
Curricular Activities
- All School Activities
- During the Christmas
Season, students participate in Christmas Tree Cutting. Trees are donated
to the needy.
- Educational Field
Trips are taken throughout the year to promote hands on learning.
- Basketball
games with other alternative schools are held during the school
year for any Lincoln Academy Student who wishes to participate.
- Homeroom Activities
- Every couple
of weeks, the students take part in group activities to focus on
academics, bonding and togetherness.
- Each homeroom is
responsible for planning, preparing and cooking various foods which
allows them to expand adult living skills.
- Community Service
- Students visit
nursing homes during the Christmas month to help make the season
merrier for the elderly community of Enid. They prepare special
gifts for the residence.
- Classes have
been involved in various volunteer activities at Leonardo's Discovery
Warehouse.
