| National
Junior Honor Society is a worldwide organization for students in grades 7-9.
The organization is sponsored by National Association of Secondary School Principals.
To be eligible for consideration for membership a student must first achieve
a 3.2 GPA for the semester. These students' names are then submitted to the
faculty and administration for evaluation on the principles of service, leadership,
and character.
The Longfellow NJHS is the Luikart-McCoy Chapter, named for Ms. Marie Luikart, a long-time Longfellow English teacher and Sponsor of the group, and Perry McCoy, a former LJHS principal. The chapter was organized in the early 1970's. Recently 99 students were inducted into the Luikart-McCoy Chapter. Special projects of NJHS include recognizing at the Awards Assembly the outstanding ninth grade student in each of the ninth grade classes and the presentation of the John Wright Scholarship plaque at promotion to the ninth grade student with the highest GPA for three years at LJHS. |
