All
student councils need officers to run the meetings and take charge. The standard
amount of officers ranges from five to eight students. These offices are president,
vice-president, secretary, treasurer, parliamentarian, and one to three committee
officers. The president's job is to preside over all meetings, oversee all committees,
recognize all motions made by the student council members, call special meetings
when necessary, work for the general welfare and success of the school, and
preside over officers planning the meetings. The vice-president's job is to
preside at all meetings in the absence of the president, assist the president
in the office, and be the service chair of the student services committee. The
secretary's job is to keep attendance records indicating unexcused and excused
absences and tardies, accurately record the minutes of the meetings, handle
all correspondence pertaining to the council, and serve as chair of publicity
committee. The treasurer takes care of all financial business, acts as secretary
in the absence of the secretary, and serves as chair of the fundraising committee.
The parliamentarian sees that the parliamentary procedure is followed at all
meetings and serves as chair of the community committee. Other committee officers
take over jobs deemed necessary by the sponsors and are chair of special committees.
