Colonel Anthony L. Smith is the Commander, 71st Mission Support Group, 71st Flying Training Wing, Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. As the Installation Manager, he is responsible for the $550M flying operations and base operations contracts and all support for the Vance missio and community; including procurement, civil engineering, firefighting, security and law enforcement, communications, peronnel, supply, transportation, housing, recreation and services activities.
Previously, he served as the Chief of the Budget and Analysis Division, Resources Directorate at Headquarters Air Force Installation and Missions Support Center, Air Force Material Comman where he managed 6.9 billion dollars.
Prior to attending Air War College, Col Smithserved as the Senior Military Assistant to the Director of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the world’s largest finance and accounting agency. He supported their effort to strengthen financial management while reduicing costs, processing over 120 million pay transactions to all service members, civilian employees, vendors and contractors of the Department of Defense.
Col Smith entered the Air Force after receiving his commission through Reserve Officer Training Corps at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, North Carolina in May 1997. He has served in a variety of positions at the wing, center, major command, Air Force and Defense Agency levels. He deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2006.
