COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

No, not in a traditional way. School buildings will not re-open this school year. Instead, students will learn at home, in accordance with CDC guidelines.

No. When the state Board of Education voted to close schools until April 6, they also directed schools not to offer instruction through distance, home-based or online learning. EPS will use these weeks to plan for the next phase of instruction, which the state Department of Education is calling a “continuous learning plan.” During this phase, students will have the opportunity to learn through online and home-based activities.

Medication can be picked up at each school site between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 23. Please have your ID available to show school officials.If you were unable to pick up medication on this day, please email your child’s principal to make arrangements to do so. Unfortunately, no. It is not safe at this time for the public or participants to gather together for such events.
 

These events will have to be postponed, canceled or honored in non-traditional ways. For our seniors and their parents, we know this is an especially difficult time. We will do everything possible to ensure the hard work of our graduates is recognized and celebrated in special and unique ways. This is an unfair situation, but please reassure the senior in your life that it does not diminish their achievements. We will communicate more about this topic as soon as information is available.

It is the intent of EPS to ensure there is no disruption to pay for both support and certified employees. All school employees will receive their regular paychecks on April 20. Oklahoma law allows certified employees and administrators to be paid in the event of a school closure due to an epidemic. District administrators are recommending that the Board of Education approve a Memorandum of Understanding with the Enid Support Personnel Organization that will allow the district to provide support employees with enough emergency leave to cover the school closure. The MOU is expected to be approved on April 2.

EPS is working to schedule virtual IEP meetings for the convenience and safety of parents and staff. We will get in touch with you soon if you have an upcoming meeting. Because this is an unprecedented change for public schools, we are waiting for additional guidance from state and federal officials regarding other aspects of special education services.

A continuous learning plan is the phrase selected by the state Department of Education to describe the remote education experience students will have now through the end of the school year. All learning will take place at home, either through online learning or home-based activities. Even though we will not be at school together, EPS will still focus on relationship with students through phone calls, emails, text and video.

EPS is working to provide more access to students. Every secondary student has been provided a 1:1 Chromebook and a hot spot with free wifi. This device and the wifi can be used by other siblings in the home as well. We are also planning to determine what homes do not need a hot spot (because they have their own wifi) so that the devices can be shared with those who do. EPS may be able to also distribute the 1:1 devices that are kept for elementary students at school. We just want to be sure that any pick-up and/or distribution process will be safe for families and employees. We need to have as limited physical or in-person contact as possible for now.

One of our most important roles as educators is to ensure students have the skills and knowledge to promote or graduate at the end of each year. Students who were on track to graduate or promote prior to the COVID-19 closure will not be negatively impacted by the state Board of Education’s decision to move to a home-based learning program. 

No. Waivers have been approved at the federal level to eliminate state tests this school year.

TLE requirements are being waived for this school year. Nothing more is required.

It has been recommended to the state Board of Education that an extension be granted to teachers needing an emergency certificate for a third year, as long as the emergency candidate has made progress towards his or her provisional certification.

Over the next two weeks, school officials will be planning the best way to provide our students with home-based and online learning through the end of the traditional school year. Principals will contact certified and support employees about their roles in this planning process, as well as their roles in the ongoing continous learning plan. We value your expertise and talents. Your knowledge will be critical as we prepare for this next phase of instruction.

Northern Oklahoma has moved all instruction online. Students should check their NOC email accounts for more information from college officials. Autry Technology Center classes are canceled until at least April 6, perhaps longer.
 

On Monday, March 23, all administrators, nurses, custodians, maintenance employees and some building secretaries must report to assist parents with medication pick-ups. Secretaries will be notified by their principals if they are needed. Custodians and maintenance employees will work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 24, all administrators, custodians and maintenance employees must report. Custodians and maintenance employees will work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Child nutrition staff who will be needed to provide meals will be contacted by Kelly Craig as soon as the plan is finalized.

Principals and custodians will need to check on buildings daily.

No other employees should report to work or come to the buildings. Please stay home to avoid exposure to COVID-19 in public places.
