A Message for Longfellow Parents
October 15, 2018
Dear Longfellow Parents:
I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred on our campus today. Fortunately, no one was harmed or in danger. It is still, however, a matter that we take very seriously.
Before dismissal, some students were playing basketball in one of the school’s gymnasiums. Two people, believed to be older students who do not attend Longfellow, opened the gymnasium door and fired a plastic toy cap gun (with an orange tip) two to three times. They then quickly left the campus. Law enforcement officials immediately responded to this incident, and additional adult supervision was provided during dismissal time.
Safety is our greatest priority, and we appreciate the assistance provided by the EPS Police Department and the Enid Police Department today. They are continuing to investigate this situation. Tomorrow, as an extra precaution, EPS police officers will be present at our school. Additionally, we will be reviewing and revising safety procedures to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect our students and staff from school safety issues.
The people responsible for today’s disruption were wearing a black hoodie and a yellow hoodie. If you or your child know anything about this incident, you are encouraged to contact the EPS Police Department at 366-8344 or our office at 366-8200.
Thank you for your support of Longfellow Middle School.
