January is School Board Recognition Month and an opportunity for local schools and communities to honor Oklahoma's more than 2,700 elected school board members for their dedication to children and schools.
"We are very thankful to have a school board comprised of community members that are invested in Enid children as much as we are at Enid Public Schools," said Dr. Dudley Darrow, Superintendent of Enid Public Schools. "School Board Recognition Month is a time to say thank you to board members for selflessly volunteering their time and talent to our students and staff.”
School board members across the state develop policies and make tough decisions regarding complex educational and social issues that impact the entire community. EPS board members bear responsibility for an annual budget of $95 million, over 7,600 students, 1,000 employees and 18 schools.
“School board members are the foundation for all decisions that affect student success,” said Darrow. “We are incredibly thankful for their service to EPS.”
The men and women serving on the EPS Board, and the year they began their service, are Rev. Joe Blackwood, 2020; Ja’Nell Huff, 2023; Matt Lohman, 2021; Randy Long, 2022; Chad Mantz, 2021; Matt Sampson, 2014; Torry Turnbow, 2014; and Vance Air Force Base honorary member Col. Nekitha Little, 2023.
